A Word for the New Year…

I was inspired after reading Kimberly VanDiepen’s post at, where she has started 2014 with a word to describe the year. She chose the word “determined”.  She had very good reasons for choosing that word and she inspired me to think ahead and choose a word for myself.  I chose the word “kind”.

After witnessing the kindnesses shown to my younger sister, Cookie, as she struggled over the last seven years with Alzheimer’s and especially this past November when she passed away, I want to be able to show that heartfelt kindness to whoever may need it this year.  Maybe it will just be a warm smile in passing, a wink in an uncomfortable situation or something much bigger.

To honor this small decision for 2014 I created this framed word and have it displayed where I will see it daily.  I plan to write it on my weekly calendar and anywhere else I think of to remind me how important it is to show kindness.  Here is the frame…

The background paper and the words were made using the Watercolor Wonder DSP.  The banners were made with the Sale-A-Bration stamp set Banner Blast and coordinating Banner punch.  The green chevron paper is the only thing behind the glass.  Everything else is stuck to the glass.  This project works well for what I intended, but wouldn’t it be cute with a message of love or a person’s initials or name?  So many possibilities.

Hope I’ve inspired you to choose a word for 2014 and display it.

Here’s your “B-ism” for today:  “Sometimes when I open my mouth my mother comes out.”

I’m inky and happy…
