Water Color Sympathy…

A “thinking of you” card could cover many circumstances in our lives…but most commonly is used for sympathy.  But to me this card would work for someone newly diagnosed or recovering from treatments or surgery.  When life closes in and we lose control of our daily routines, a well-timed “thinking of you” card is really appreciated.

It would be helpful if we all had a stash of this type of card so that we can respond quickly when these situations occur.

Today’s card is fairly easy to put together but at the same time conveys the message we are aware and concerned…

a little different view…

and a bow close up…

if you haven’t watched it before, here’s the video on YouTube.

Here’s the Stuff ‘N Digits…

  • Ink:  Archival Basic Black, Mint Macaron, Marina Mist and Rich Razzleberry
  • Stamps:  Sheltering Tree
  • Tools ‘N Embellishments:  Linen Thread, “I” Acrylic Block, Mint Macaron, Marina Mist and Rich Razzleberry Markers, Strip Adhesive

  • The Mint Macaron base card is 4-1/4″ x 11″, scored, folded and burnished at 5-1/2″

  • Once dry stamp Sheltering Tree with Archival Basic Black and sentiment at top right.  Criss-cross Linen Thread and attach at back with SNAIL.  Make bow as per video and attach at cross point with glue dots.  Add Adhesive Strip to all edges and a piece in center back of water color paper.  Add to card front.
  • Inside there is a piece of Rich Razzleberry 3-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ with a piece of Whisper White added that is 3-1/4″ x 4-1/4″.  A small strip of the trimmed water color paper was added at the bottom of Whisper White.
  • You can see the envelope was stamped with the Sheltering Tree and another piece of trimmed water color paper added at the bottom to coordinate with the card front.

We are enjoying what feels like spring weather here in the South and I even put my top down on my car today!  Yippee!

You’re In My Thoughts…

Alright…I’ll be really honest with all of you.  I resisted this stamp set originally because I was disappointed in the way it was presented to demonstrators.

This stamp set will only be available until the end of the month.  Then all these fabulous samples started to appear on Pinterest and Stampin’ Connection and I just couldn’t resist any longer.

So since I’m already behind with this set and its only available for such a short time AND because I’ve fallen head over heels with it, I’m going to feature it all this week and show how it can be used in every season of the year.

Today, though I needed a sympathy card.  It works for that too…

The stamp set is Thoughtful Branches.  Here’s a peek at the inside…

With a little VersaMark and White Embossing Powder you could add “snow” to the branches, but here I’ve added a second tree to shadow the other.

Here’s the Stuff ‘N Digits for you…

  • Paper:  Sahara Sand, Early Espresso and Serene Scenery Designer Series Paper Stack
  • Ink:  Early Espresso
  • Stamps:  Thoughtful Branches and Layering Love (sentiment)
  • Tools ‘N Embellishments:  Linen Thread Thoughtful Branches coordinating thinlet set

  • The Sahara Sand base card is 4-1/4″ x 11″, scored and folded at 5-1/2″
  • The Early Espresso layer is 4″ x 5-1/4″
  • The DSP layer is 3-3/4″ x 5″ attached to the Early Espresso layer with adhesive.  Stamp sentiment in Early Espresso.  Cut two trees with thinlet one in Early Espresso and one in Sahara Sand.  Using multipurpose or thin tipped glue, offset trees and glue together.  Add to DSP with glue.
  • Attach several rounds of Linen Thread around the bottom of these two layers, then attach to card front with glue.
  • Make linen thread bow…video instructions here.
  • Inside the Early Espresso layer is 4-1/2″ x 3-1/2″ attached to card with adhesive
  • The Sahara Sand layer is 4-1/4′ x 3-1/4″ attached to Early Espresso layer with adhesive.
  • Stamp sentiment in Early Espresso.
  • Add a 3-1/4″ x 1-1/2″ strip of DSP to left side.
  • Cut two leaves one in Sahara Sand and one in Early Espresso.  Glue together slightly offset and then to top left corner.

Hope you enjoyed this post today and the ones to follow.  Not one looks anything like the other.  They will represent every season and then some.

If interested in ordering, this set can be ordered as a bundle (stamp set and thinlets) the cost is $52.  Order #144328.  With the popularity of this set and the impending deadline, the sooner you order the better.

And, of course, I’d love for you to order from me…just click on the “shop now” star to the right of this post.

Thinking of You…

We all may have the same sweet memory of sitting on the porch swing in the summertime sharing sweet nothings with someone special…I know I do!  Especially a favorite aunt who had a swing under the big shade trees in her yard in the country surrounded with flower beds filled with her favorite blooms of the season…sweet tea and conversations…

Can you believe todays post is made with the same stamp set as yesterday?

and here’s a peek at the inside…

I need to hide this stamp set from me…seriously!

Here’s the Stuff ‘N Digits for you…

  • Paper:  Thick Whisper White, Soft Sky, Mint Macaron and Flirty Flamingo
  • Ink:  Early Espresso, Basic Black plus Daper Denim, Flirty Flamingo, Mint Macaron, Dapper Denim and Going Grey markers
  • Stamps:  Sitting Here
  • Tools ‘N Embellishments:  Bird Builder Punch (leaves), Itty Bitty Flower and Small Flower Punch

  • The Thick Whisper White base card is 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″
  • The Soft Sky layer is 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″ attach to card front with adhesive
  • The top Whisper White layer is 5 1/4″ x 4″.  Stamp swing and kitty with Early Espresso.  Punch leaves from Mint Macaron, flowers from Whisper White, Soft Sky and Flirty Flamingo.  Glue down leaves starting from top right corner.  Punch flowers with the end of your piercing tool on the foam mat to give them dimension.  Use your Early Espresso marker to dot centers of flowers.  Add flowers to card front with glue dots.
  • Stamp kitty, and three pillows on scrap Whisper White with Basic Black.  Color kitty with a little Going Grey marker.  Color pillows in Flirty Flamingo, Dapper Denim and Mint Macaron and fussy cut pillows and kitty.  Use the round end of anything you have to break down the fibers from the back of each cut out.  Add to card front with dimensionals.  With Going Grey marker or Blender Pen and ink, add shadows under kitty and swing.
  • Add sentiment in Basic Black.  I admit to using a MISTI to add my sentiments because its so easy to ruin a card at the end with a crooked or partially stamped sentiment…Ugh!
  • The inside is a 3″ x 4 1/2″ piece of Soft Sky with a 2 7/8″ x 4 3/8″ piece of Whisper White.  Add some of the left over flowers from card front at bottom right corner.

It’s Saturday afternoon…so I’ll catch back up with you on Monday.  Have a wonderful, swing filled rest of the weekend!

Holiday Sympathy…

While most of us are running around like a “chicken with its head cut off” this time of year, some are experiencing one of life’s saddest times.  And it’s times like this we need to stop…and let them know we are walking with them.

Today’s card post is a sympathy card…

Thanksgiving three years ago I said good bye to my younger sister…so I know personally how much it means to receive words of comfort and encouragement…especially during a holiday celebration.

Here’s the Stuff ‘N Digits for this one…

  • Paper:  3 1/2″ x 5″ Crumb Cake notecard plus Blackberry Bliss, Old Olive and Thick Whisper White
  • Ink:  Basic Black
  • Stamps:  Vintage Leaves and Best Thoughts
  • Tools ‘N Embellishments:  Linen Thread, Leaflets Framelits and Woodland Textured Impressions Folder

  • The Blackberry Bliss layer is 3 1/4″ x 4 3/4″ adhered to the Crumb Cake notecard with adhesive
  • The Thick Whisper White layer is 3″ x 4 1/2″ stamp sentiment in Basic Black and embossed with Woodland Textured EF attached to Blackberry Bliss layer with adhesive after wrapping Linen Tread at bottom of layer.
  • The leaves were stamped on Blackberry Bliss and Old Olive and cut with Leaflets Framelits.  Attached with adhesive for the first leaf and dimensionals for the second leaf.

Today let’s be happy our life is ordinary without drama and encourage those who are dealing with tragic losses especially during this holiday season.

Hope Note Night…

I thought I’d give you a break from the tag/ornaments and show you what happened last night…

Last night was Hope Note night…where we make 100 notecards in one night to donate to the local Women’s Cancer Center.  Generally I make up the five kits of 20 cards each and we sit and put them together after sharing dinner together.

Last evening was just a little cool so we took advantage and had our dinner outside by the fire…perfect!

Then we came up to the studio and got to work.  It took us a little over two hours to finish…the time flew.

These two gentle hearts are my staunchest supporters…and not just because they are both cancer survivors.  Wanda Davis on the left here has been coming to my classes for a long time and has grown so much with her stamping art.  Dawn Benjamin (on the right) is a team member here at Rambling Rose and lives right across the street!  She even designed one of the Hope Notes and kitted it for me…that’s a friend!

Here’s Dawn’s card…

Both Dawn and Wanda say they have kept all the cards they received during their recovery because they meant so much to them.  We decided our cards were triple blessed…we are blessed for making them, the survivor who writes the card to the newly diagnosed cancer patient is blessed and lastly the recipient is blessed when receiving the card.

Here is another card we completed last night…

These card ideas could be helpful if you are planning to make cards as a gift package.  I hope you can tell Hope Notes are close to my heart.

There are three more designs I’ll share with you in the coming week…

Here’s your “B-ism” for today…

Have a HaPpY weekend!

Soft Sympathy…

It may be even more important to remember our friends who have lost a loved one after all the memorials and services have ended.  With that in mind I created this card…

From personal experience I know that some days are just difficult to even live and breathe through.  This card is soft and reflective and in my favorite color combination of greens and blues with plenty of space inside to write a personal message.

Here is the Stuff ‘N Digits for you…

  • Paper:  Whisper White cardstock, plus vellum cardstock
  • Ink:  Soft Sky,  Pear Pizazz and Memento Black plus VersaMark
  • Stamps:  Moon Lake
  • Tools ‘N Embellishments:  5/8″ Soft Sky Seam Binding, Clear Embossing Powder

  • The Whisper White base card is 11″ x 4 1/4″, scored at 5 1/2″
  • The second Whisper White layer is 5″ x 3 3/4″
  • The Vellum cardstock is 5″ x 3 1/2″
  • Mask the 5″ x 3 3/4″ with Washi tape you are not crazy about leaving a square the stamp will fit in.
  • Stamp with Versamark and sprinkle with clear embossing powder then heat
  • Sponge the bottom 1/3 of the masked area with Pear Pizazz and the remainder with Soft Sky.  Rub over with tissue if some of the ink is on the image.
  • Remove tape carefully to not tear your cardstock (I speak from experience!)
  • Stamp the sentiment with Black Memento ink
  • Attach this layer to card with dimensionals
  • Attach the vellum layer with two glue dots in top corners
  • Attach seam binding with adhesive and bow with glue dots

Very simple, sweet and serene…perfect.

So glad you stopped by today.  How your day is awesome!

Thanks A Bunch…

Do you challenge yourself sometimes when you are stamping?  I needed three “thank you” cards and three “thinking of you” cards.  The challenge was to use one stamp set for all the cards.   Are you laughing?

Right.  Well, I started off well enough.  I knew I wanted my card base to be Sahara Sand (my favorite neutral) and I wanted to use my new DSP Flashback so my color selection came from there.  But then I couldn’t find a “thinking of you” and went through all my stash so that took a second set, my original set was going to be Choose Happiness so I could Blendie color the flower, but then the starburst in Kinda Eclectic seemed just right and the dots and leaves…well, you see what I mean.  I ended up using four stamp sets and here is what I came up with…

With a little Linen Thread (of course!) some sequins here and there and Crystal Effects on my “fussy cut” bloom…ahhhh, I’m so happy with it!  Here is all the Stuff ‘N Digits for you…

  • Paper:  Sahara Sand, Basic Grey and Very Vanilla cardstock plus a scrap of Whisper White for the flower so the colors will be bright, Flashback DSP.
  • Ink:  Crushed Curry, Coastal Cabana, Pear Pizzaz, Sahara Sand
  • Stamps:  Kinda Eclectic, Choose Happiness, Gorgeous Grunge, Whimsical Words (sentiment for thinking of you)
  • Tools ‘N Embellishments:  Linen Thread, Crystal Effects, Sequins

  • Base card of Sahara Sand is 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″
  • The first layer of DSP is 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″
  • The Basic Grey layer is 3 5/8″ x 4 7/8″
  • The Very Vanilla layer is 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″
  • Stamp the Sunburst in Crushed Curry, the sentiment in Sahara Sand and the leaves in Pear Pizzaz three times without re-inking
  • Stamp the dots border twice without re-inking in Coastal Cabana
  • Stamp the flower in Memento Black on Whisper White and color with the two lighter shades from Cherry Cobbler and the Peachy color from the skin tones for the light shade.  Then “fussy cut” and cover with Crystal Effects.  You have to set this aside to dry for a loooonnnnngggg time.  You can speed it up with the heat tool, but be careful not to over heat.  Do you think I waited the long time?  Nope.
  • Attach the flower when it’s dry with dimensionals, splatters from Gorgeous Grunge,  the sequins with Tombow and criss-cross the Linen Thread all on the Vanilla layer before attaching with adhesive to Basic Grey layer.
  • Now attach the DSP layer to the base card and the “gussied up” layers to the card with dimensionals.

Don’t forget to stamp your envelop to coordinate with your card and you can even line your envelope too!  I love SU! products…

I’m not kidding…I do love all the coordinating products and my job.  I get to play all the time and call it work.  And meet great people who turn into stamping peeps with me.  Come and join me!

For A Friend…

Have you ever had a friend going through one of life’s really rough spots and felt totally useless to help?  This is where I am at the moment so this is the card that just evolved as I was thinking about her…

The set is called An Open Heart and seemed just perfect for what needed to be said.  Should you find yourself in the spot as me, here are the Stuff ‘N Digits for you if you’d like to give this card a try…

  • Ink:  Lost Lagoon (sentiment) and reinker in an Aqua Painter for background painting.  Blendability Pens Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Crumb Cake, Smoky Slate, Flesh  and Pumpkin Pie
  • Stamps:  An Open Heart
  • Tools ‘N Embellishments:  Linen Thread, Pearl, Oval Framelits, Aqua Painter

  • The Lost Lagoon base card is 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″
  • The Crushed Curry layer is 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″
  • The dotted DSP layer is 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • The vertical Lost Lagoon layer is 4″ x 2 1/2″

  • The Lost Lagoon oval is the next to the largest in the set
  • The watercolor paper oval is the next size down from the Lost Lagoon oval
  • The sentiment oval is the next to smallest oval in the set.

This card isn’t going to rock my friend’s world, but it may just offer a little ray of sunshine and let her know others are thinking of her and holding her close to their hearts.

Here’s your “B-ism” for today…”Worry is like a rocking chair.  It will give you something to do, but it won’t get you anywhere.”

Here’s to inky fingers…and staying HaPpY!
