Saying Goodbye…

When my oldest g’daughter moved out on her own, she also adopted a cat she named “Duncan” from the local Nashville animal shelter.  And they were on their own just the two of them.

That fluffy little kitty grew into the most beautiful, sweet cat.  But he passed away suddenly this weekend and my g’daughter is heartbroken.  We are just never prepared to say goodbye to our pets.

This is Duncan.

So I made this card for Kendall and wrote to her from my heart because we all have experienced losing our best furry friend…

The cat punch had just been delivered, but this was not in my plans when I ordered it.

A glamour close up…

The envelope flap was covered in DSP to coordinate with the card front.

Using the left over ink from the card front inside the card.

Keep this card in mind when you need a sympathy card for someone’s furry friend…

Here’s the Stuff ‘N Digits for you…

Stuff

  • Paper:  Thick Whisper White Cardstock plus Coffee Break Designer Series Paper
  • Ink:  Soft Suede, Lemon Lime Twist, Old Olive, Pool Party and Bermuda Bay
  • Stamps:  Wood Words and Sorry for Everything (sentiment)
  • Tools ‘N Embellishments:  Cat Punch

Digits

  • The Thick Whisper White base card is 4-1/4″ x 11″, scored, folded and burnished at 5-1/2″
  • The DSP layer is 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ attached to card front with SNAIL.
  • The top Thick Whisper White layer is 3-3/4″ x 5″.  Stamp sentiment in Soft Suede.  Color flower stamp with Lemon Lime Twist, Old Olive, Pool Party and Bermuda Bay markers.  Huff on the stamp before stamping.
  • Punch the cat from this layer.  Glue this layer to the card front with SNAIL.
  • Punch four more cats from Thick Whisper White CS.  I used a small amount of multipurpose glue between layers and then put a small amount on the card front and placed the now single fate cat inside the punched opening.
  • Inside there is a 5″ -3-3/4″ piece of DSP with a Thick Whisper White CS layer on top.  All placed inside the card with SNAIL.  I huffed the Wood Word stamp again and stamped in the middle of the Whisper White layer.  It was faint enough to write my message over the top.
  • The envelope flap was also covered in the same DSP.

Life happens and as card makers we can always respond with just the right message for those we love.

Hope your Monday is super!

Here’s your “B-ism” for today…

Keep those fingers inky…be HaPpY!

Shades of Grey…

Found this technique on Pinterest and knew I had to try it…so I did.  The card I saw was made by Charlet Mallet.

But I will admit to you right now, this took all the patience in the world (which I do not have) to complete.

Here’s the card…

It’s not that I don’t like how it turned out…this technique is stunning.  But…

See all those itty bitty pieces…right!

I gladly give Charlet credit…she must have all kinds of patience!  She had the whole flower with all the leaves on her card.  I bet she’s in the looney bin about now.

The effect is stunning and that’s what caught my eye.

Just in case you feel the urge to give this a try, here’s the Stuff ‘N Digits

Stuff

  • Paper:  Basic Gray, Smoky Slate, Whisper White and Pool Party Cardstock
  • Ink:  Archival Basic Black
  • Stamps:  Feather Together
  • Tools ‘N Embellishments:  Rose Garden Thinlits, Lots of Dimensionals,

Digits

  • The Basic Gray base card is 4-1/4″ x 11″, scored, folded and burnished at 5-1/2″
  • The large Pool Party layer on the card front is 4-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ attached to card front with dimensionals.
  • The Smoky Slate layer on card front is 4-1/8″ x 4-1/8″.  Cut rose image with Rose Garden Thinlits from Smoky Slate CS.  Turn framelit so back of paper is exposed and begin placing dimensionals on each piece.  You will be cutting tiny pieces for some of them.  Once you have dimensionals on each piece, remove protective paper and place the Smoky Slate 4-1/8″ square piece over the framelit with the pieces still in place.  You may need to adjust some of the pieces.  Add this layer to the Pool Party layer on the card front with SNAIL or multipurpose glue.
  • The sentiment at the bottom of the card front is 7/8″ x 4″ of the Pool Party piece.  I used a punch upside down and just put the end of this cardstock into one side of the punch to get this shape on the ends.  You could just tag the ends with your snips.  The Smoky Slate layer is 3/4″ x 3-3/8″.  Stamp sentiment in Basic Black and attach to Pool Party layer with SNAIL.  Add these two layer to card front at bottom.
  • Inside there is a Pool Party layer 3-3/8″ x 4-3/8″ with a Whisper White layer on top 3-1/4″ x 4-1/4″.  I stamped the sentiment inside “and sending hugs” in Basic Black.

If you decide to give this technique a try, I’d love to hear from you.

Thanks so much for stopping by today and a special thanks to those of you who have ordered from my online store by clicking the star in the right column that says “shop now”.  I hope you have all received your thank you in the mail…

Here’s your “B-ism” for today…

Black & White Sympathy…

This card was inspired by one of Kylie Bertucci’s that was found on Pinterest.  You can check out her blog here.

Sympathy cards are not my speciality, but when you need one it is nice to have them on hand.  I think Kylie’s card was Crumb Cake and she used different stamps in the background, but the white flower in the foreground was what really caught my eye…

and a close up…

Here’s the Stuff ‘N Digits for this card…

Stuff

  • Paper:  Basic Grey, Smoky Slate, Thick Whisper White and Basic Black
  • Ink:  Archival Basic Black
  • Stamps:  Birthday Blooms,  Butterfly Basics
  • Tools ‘N Embellishments:  Don’t faint…None!

Digits

  • The Basic Grey base card is 4-1/4″ x 11″, scored, folded and burnished at 5-1/2″
  • The Basic Black layer is 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ attached to card front with SNAIL
  • The Smoky Slate layer is 4″ x 5-1/4″.  Stamp sentiment, ferns and other background stamps.  Stamp rose on scrap Thick Whisper White and “fussy cut”.  Carefully breakdown paper with bone folder so flower will curl slightly.  Add to card front with lots of dimensionals.
  • Inside there is a layer of Basic Black 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ attached with SNAIL
  • On top of that layer add a Thick Whisper White layer 4″ x 5-1/4″ with SNAIL.  The sentiment “For some things there are just no words” is stamped in Basic Black at top leaving plenty of room for a personal message.

Just to set the record straight, I did also make a hot air balloon for the second “little”, but since I had posted a similar one a few weeks ago, didn’t show his.  But here it is …

I think he will like this one…more his colors!

Water Color Sympathy…

A “thinking of you” card could cover many circumstances in our lives…but most commonly is used for sympathy.  But to me this card would work for someone newly diagnosed or recovering from treatments or surgery.  When life closes in and we lose control of our daily routines, a well-timed “thinking of you” card is really appreciated.

It would be helpful if we all had a stash of this type of card so that we can respond quickly when these situations occur.

Today’s card is fairly easy to put together but at the same time conveys the message we are aware and concerned…

  • The Water Color layer is 3-3/4″ x 5″.  With markers ink the surface of the “I” Acrylic block Mint Macaron, Marina Mist and Rich Razzleberry letting the colors blend where they meet.  Spritz the colors with water and apply block to surface of water color paper pressing and holding for a few seconds.  Lift straight up and let dry.
  • Once dry stamp Sheltering Tree with Archival Basic Black and sentiment at top right.  Criss-cross Linen Thread and attach at back with SNAIL.  Make bow as per video and attach at cross point with glue dots.  Add Adhesive Strip to all edges and a piece in center back of water color paper.  Add to card front.
  • Inside there is a piece of Rich Razzleberry 3-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ with a piece of Whisper White added that is 3-1/4″ x 4-1/4″.  A small strip of the trimmed water color paper was added at the bottom of Whisper White.
  • You can see the envelope was stamped with the Sheltering Tree and another piece of trimmed water color paper added at the bottom to coordinate with the card front.

Heartfelt Sympathy…

There have been many posts on this blog with sympathy cards over time, and to me its important to remember friends when they are going through a difficult time.  A word of comfort and encouragement can mean so much.  If you have been on the receiving end, I’m sure you would agree with me.

So today’s post is a sympathy card made with new product (with the exception of the sentiments)…

Thinking of You…

These cards are never easy, but having been on the other end to receive sympathy cards, I know how much they mean.

Of course, this card could definitely be used for several occasions in this season…especially for the Thanksgiving Holiday…

Pet Sympathy…

Many of us share our daily lives with animals…but these pets become much more to us over time.  Are your pets family members?  Most of us would answer “yes”!

So when my cousins’ precious maltese, Tilly,  died this past week…a pet sympathy card needed to be made and sent…

tilly

She will probably receive this card today and I know she will feel me holding her close as she deals with her loss.

If you also send pet sympathy cards, this is a good one.  Inside the “Rainbow Bridge” poem is included…its a comfort and a sweet thought.  You can google it if you’ve never read it.

Here’s the Stuff ‘N Digits for you…

Stuff

  • Paper:  Thick Whisper White, Sahara Sand  and Basic BlackCardstock
  • Ink:  Strawberry Slush, Dapper Denim, Perfect Plum, Basic Black and Daffodil Delight
  • Stamps:  Greatest Greetings
  • Tools ‘N Embellishments:  5/8″ Daffodil Delight Seam Binding, Linen Thread, Small Heart Punch, Large Heart Punch, Aqua Painter

Digits

  • The Sahara Sand base card is 4-1/4″ x 11″, scored, folded and burnished at 5-1/2″
  • The Thick Whisper White layer is 4″ x 5-1/4″.  Using reinker in the lid of your stamping pad use your Aqua Painter to paint a swoosh of each color.  There’s no right or wrong…just go for it!  Punch one large and four small Basic Black hearts.  Add to card front with Multipurpose Glue to resemble a pet’s paw pad.  Stamp sentiment at lower right corner in Basic Black.  Attach a piece of 5/8″ Daffodil Delight seam binding wrapping to the back and securing with SNAIL.  Make a bow with triple loops and tie off in center with Linen Thread.  Add to card front with Glue Dots over ribbon layer.  Attach this layer to card front with SNAIL.

While we are still seeing the affects of Hurricane Matthew on the southern east coast, there are so many who need our thoughts and prayers.  There’s no telling how many little pets may have been lost either.

Sympathy Thoughts…

Another passing has happened to a sweet friend.  Things just came to a halt because I needed a really special card for her and my stash was empty.  Just can’t seem to keep a supply of these cards.  But like I always say, when you need one, you need it right then.

I gathered the materials to make the card I had pictured in my mind and this is the result…but you know what?  This card didn’t turn out anything like the one I had in mind.  Does that happen to you sometimes too?  I like this one but I’ll try again for the imaginary one in my head another day…

lauraann

and here’s the inside…

You’re In My Thoughts…

Alright…I’ll be really honest with all of you.  I resisted this stamp set originally because I was disappointed in the way it was presented to demonstrators.

This stamp set will only be available until the end of the month.  Then all these fabulous samples started to appear on Pinterest and Stampin’ Connection and I just couldn’t resist any longer.

So since I’m already behind with this set and its only available for such a short time AND because I’ve fallen head over heels with it, I’m going to feature it all this week and show how it can be used in every season of the year.

Today, though I needed a sympathy card.  It works for that too…

thoughtfulbranch3

The stamp set is Thoughtful Branches.  Here’s a peek at the inside…

thoughtfulbranch

With a little VersaMark and White Embossing Powder you could add “snow” to the branches, but here I’ve added a second tree to shadow the other.

Touches of Texture…

When it comes time to send a sympathy card, I’m all over it because I’ve been on the other side of that card and know how much it means to receive a heartfelt card when your heart is broken.

Usually I have these cards on hand but made this one today for a sweet friend who lost his dad yesterday.  Hope he feels the love…

sympathy1

and here is the inside with space for a nice note…

sympathy

You can see in this picture how the envelope was stamped to coordinate with the card.

This is a fun technique with a little “wow” power too!  Here’s the Stuff ‘N Digits for you…

Stuff

  • Paper:  Thick Whisper White and Soft Sky Cardstock
  • Ink:  Pear Pizazz, Sweet Sugarplum, Soft Sky and Basic Black
  • Stamps:  Touch of Texture and Rose Wonder (sentiment)
  • Tools ‘N Embellishments:  Frog Tape, Sponge Dauber or sponge wedge

Digits

  • The Thick Whisper White base card is 4-1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5-1/2″
  • The Soft Sky layer is 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ attached to the card front with adhesive
  • The top Whisper White layer is 4″ x 5-1/4″.  Using the tape, tape a section on the front of the card about 2″ wide.  Using the sponge of your choice sponge in the taped off area with Pear Pizazz, Sweet Sugarplum and Soft Sky.  Tip:  BE SURE to peel the tape careful.  DO NOT pull as this may tear your cardstock.
  • Stamp the Soft Sky flower and the splats in Sweet Sugarplum then add the bloom outline stamp in Basic Black and the stem of the flower.
  • Tip:  I use a MISTI to add sentiments to my cards (saves me so many times having to re-do a card).  Add sentiment in Basic Black.
  • Inside there is a layer of Soft Sky 3-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ with a Whisper White top layer 3-1/8″ x 4-1/8″ added with adhesive.  Repeat sponging technique.  Tip:  you can reuse your tape.
  • On the envelope only one piece of tape was used and the same sponging technique repeated.  The flower was added like the one on the card front.

I love this masking and sponging technique…so many possiblilities!

Are you ready for today’s B-ism?  Here you go…
