The World Goes Round…

First let me say I watched a video by Tanya DeRoy (see her blog here) from Australia and knew I had to make this “twirl” card using the Carousel Birthday stamp set.

Using her dimensions I created this birthday card that could easily be made into a Valentine or Anniversary card with a change of sentiment…you make my world go round.

The belly band dresses up the card front and hints at the inside…

When opened and set up as an easel card, the carousel pony twirls several times…

you can see the ferris wheel and circus tents in the background…

a side view gives you more details.

Here’s the Stuff ‘N Digits

Stuff

  • Paper:  Calypso Coral, Very Vanilla, and Early Espresso Cardstock, plus Cupcakes & Carousels Designer Series Paper Stack
  • Ink:  Archival Basic Black, Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight and Early Espresso
  • Stamps:  Carousel Birthday
  • Tools ‘N Embellishments:  Gold Thread, Circle Framelits, Gold Metallic Stars, Fine Tip Glue, Lots of Labels Framelits

Digits

  • Cut one piece of Calypso Coral CS 5″ x 10″, score at 5″
  • Cut one piece of Calypso Coral 5-1/2″, score at 5″ on long side.  Add Tear ‘n Tape to this 1/2″ score.
  • Here is how these two pieces attach:

carousel1

  • You can see the center is a layer of Early Espresso 4-7/8″ square attached with SNAIL and the DSP layer is 4-3/4″ square attached over Early Espresso with snail.  This is the card front when closed.
  • To make the opening for the pony, add a layer of Very Vanilla 4-7/8″ square with SNAIL.  Add a layer of Early Espress over the Very Vanilla 4-3/4″ square with SNAIL.  Then add a layer of DSP 4-5/8″ square with just a touch of SNAIL  to hold it on top of Early Espresso.
  • Now using your Circle Framelit (2-7/8″) placed in center of  layered square, run through Big Shot.  Probably you will only remove the DSP and Early Espresso layers.  Replace framelit and run again.  You will probably just get the Very Vanilla layer.  Run again to cut the final layer.  Now remove the DSP layer and cut again with scalloped Circle Framelit that is just slightly bigger.  This will give you the dark Early Espresso showing.  Hold this DSP layer to the side.
  • Stamp pony on scrap Very Vanilla with Archival Basic Black.  Now stamp pony on window sheet and turn onto Very Vanilla and press to make an opposite image of the pony.  Color with Watercolor Pencils and blend with Blender Pen.  Fussy cut both ponies and lay them on silicon mat.  Cover with glue using Fine Tip Glue.  Let dry thoroughly.

  • Cut a piece of Gold Thread about 6-1/2″.  Cover the back of one of the ponies with multipurpose glue and lay Gold thread down center from top to bottom.  Add second pony on top with multipurpose glue.  Let dry.
  • Add Fast Fuse or Tear ‘n Tape to back of DSP square at top and bottom of circle.  Center pony inside opening and attach thread in adhesive at top and bottom.  Add SNAIL to add edges and around circle and place over the Early Espresso layer.
  • The other side of card looks like this…

carousel

  • For the center square add a layer of Very Vanilla 4-7/8″ square with SNAIL
  • Add a layer of Early Espresso 4-3/4″ square on top of Very Vanilla with SNAIL.
  • Add a layer of DSP 4-5/8″ square on top.  Stamp ferris wheel in Early Espresso slightly lower than center top to bottom and centered side to side.  Stamp ferris wheel on post it note and “fussy cut” for a mat.  Mat the wheel and stamp several tents in Archival Basic Black.  Remove mat.  Add Gold Metallic Stars to each cart on the wheel.
  • The easel holder is a layer of DSP 1-1/4″ x 4-3/4″ attached with SNAIL at the bottom of the last card square.  Stamp sentiment colored with markers on scrap Very Vanilla.  Trim and layer over Early Espresso slightly wider with SNAIL.  Tag ends and add to DSP layer with dimensionals.  Stamp swirls over sentiment in Early Espresso.
  • To make the belly band, cut a piece of Early Espresso CS 11″ x 1-1/2″.  Cut a (2) pieces of DSP 1-1/4″ x 6″.  Add to Early Espresso with SNAIL.  Stamp sentiment on scrap Very Vanilla using markers to color and cut with smallest Lots of Labels Framelit.  Cut the next size framelit from Early Espresso and layer with SNAIL.  Add this piece to center of band.  Fold around closed card and attach with SNAIL.
  • To set up pony to spin, turn in one direction as many times as you like and fold to next square to keep it from spinning, then close cover and add belly band.

Somebody is going to love receiving your card!  I know this seems like a lot of directions, but if you take it one panel at a time, you’ll be so happy with the result.  This was my first time making a card like this and I thoroughly enjoyed the process.

Hope your weekend is just what you need…
