Birthday Background…

SU! has beautiful designer series paper, but sometimes it’s fun to create your own especially when a stamp set offers you the perfect stamp to make it with.  And that’s just what I’ve done today…

I love the background repeats not only the color but a smaller version of the focal point.

This close up shows details in the background and the main image.

A side view shows how the Adhesive Strips lift the water color and sentiment layers.

And a peek inside.

I’m loving working/playing with this stamp set.  The design is so intricate.

Here’s the Stuff ‘N Digits for you…

  • Paper:  Berry Burst, Thick Whisper White Cardstock, plus water color paper
  • Ink:  Flirty Flamingo, Berry Burst, Lemon Lime Twist, Old Olive and Archival Basic Black plus White Craft Ink
  • Stamps:  Graceful Garden
  • Tools ‘N Embellishments:  Layered Square Framelits, 5/8″ Crinkled Berry Burst Seam Binding, Adhesive Strips, Small Round Brush, Embossing Buddy, White Embossing Powder

  • The Berry Burst base card is 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″, scored, folded and burnished at 4-1/4″
  • The Whisper White layer is 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ attached to card front with SNAIL
  • The Berry Burst layer is 4″ x 5-1/4″.  Use the Embossing Buddy all over the surface before stamping in Craft White Ink and sprinkling with White Embossing Powder and heating.  Attach to card front over Thick Whisper White layer with SNAIL.
  • The next Thick Whisper White layer is 3-1/4″ x 4-1/4″.
  • The Berry Burst layer is 3-1/8″ x 4-1/8″ attached to Whisper White layer with SNAIL.
  • The water color layer is 3″ x 4″.  Color the stamp image with Flirty Flamingo, Berry Burst, Lemon Lime Twist and Old Olive markers.  I general cover the whole flower with the lighter Flirty Flamingo first and go back and add the Berry Burst here and there.  Same with the stem and leaves and the greens.  When you stamp on the water color paper, huff your image and hold it in place on the water color paper longer than normal to give the ink time to seep into the porus paper.  Go over the image with a small round brush and water to “move” the ink and fill in the spaces.  It’s always nice to leave a sparkle of white here and there.  Add the splatters with the Berry Burst marker using the top of the marker and flicking the brush end out over your work.
  • Attach the water color layer to the other two layers with Tear Tape.  Tie a piece of Berry Burst ribbon around the bottom of these three layers.  Add Adhesive strip to back of all three layers and place on card front centered.
  • Cut a scalloped square from Berry Burst.  Stamp sentiment on scrap Thick Whisper White CS and cut with cooresponding stitched square framelit.  Attach  together with SNAIL.  Add single dimensional where the card covers the artwork and double dimensionals where it doesn’t and attach at lower left corner of card front.
  • Inside the Thick Whisper White layer is 3-1/2″ x 4-1/2″attached with SNAIL.   Stamp the leaf using Lemon Lime Twist with Old Olive twice without reinking.

How much fun was that?  I hope you will be inspired to give these techniques a try.

Here’s your “B-ism” for today…

I’ve been receiving lots of gifts lately…

Bloomin’ Love…

Love is what the world needs more of.  And I plan to do my part by sending RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) and today’s card will fit perfectly into that plan…

Isn’t that perfect?  And in my newest favorite color too…Mint Macron.  While I think this framelit will be a classic (think anniversary, wedding and of course, Valentines) there is nothing complicated about this card…in fact, it’s pretty simple.

Here’s the Stuff ‘N Digits for you…

  • Paper:  Thick Whisper White, Watermelon Wonder and Mint Macron cardstock
  • Ink:  Basic Black
  • Stamps:  Bloomin’ Love and Endless Thanks (sentiment & banner)
  • Tools ‘N Embellishmets:  Basic Pearls, Bloomin’ Heart Thinlet Die, Big Shot Die Brush and Linen Thread

  • The Mint Macron base card is 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″
  • Cut the heart with the Thinlet out of Thick Whisper White.  I did use the new tool Big Shot Die Brush (page 19 in the catalog) to loosen the paper from the die and it works great.  Attach the heart to the card front with dimensionals.
  • Cut the larger flower out of Watermelon Wonder, add a pearl to center and attach to the heart with dimensional.
  • Cut the smaller flower out of Mint Macron, add a pearl to center and attach to the heart with dimensional.
  • Stamp sentiment with banner and “fussy cut” adding to heart with dimensional.
  • Make Linen Thread bow (see youtube video here) and add to heart with glue dots.
  • Scatter a few pearls on the front of card.

Hope you enjoyed this friend card today.

Here’s your today…

What a refreshing thought…

CYCI#57 Clean & Simple…

Seriously, I do think these Clean & Simple challenges are getting somewhat easier for me…only half a day to do this one which is an improvement over almost a whole dang day!

Here’s my entry…

I know Valentines was yesterday, but keep in mind this was made two weeks ago.  Besides, a “love” themed card is good all year long really!  Actually embellished this card more (imagine that!) and gave it to my hubby last night for Valentines.

Would you like to enter the challenge this week and see the other samples?  Check out the challenge here.

Here is the Stuff ‘N Digits for you…

  • Paper:  Whisper White cardstock
  • Ink:  Real Red and Memento Black
  • Stamps:  Sophisticated Serifs, Gorgeous Grunge and Crazy About You
  • Tools ‘N Embellishments:  Heart Border Punch, Hexagon Punch and Three Heart Punch

  • The base Whisper White cardstock is 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″
  • The top layer of Whisper White is 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″
  • The “bloom” sentiment was stamped on a scrap piece of Whisper White and trimmed to fit the word.  Use Hexagon Punch to tag the ends.
  • Space your letters on your grid paper with the “o” in love.  Stamp on your paper to be sure the placement is correct.  Remove the “o” and stamp at lower right corner in Memento Black
  • Stamp your Gorgeous Grunge splatter with Real Red.
  • Attach your punched heart with dimensionals.
  • Attach your sentiment with dimensionals.

Maybe not in these colors, but I think this would be a striking wedding or anniversary card that makes up quickly.

Be sure and check back this week for a couple of videos…one on using the Sophisticated Serifs and one on making feathers from washi tape.

We had a great big six degrees this morning and are expecting an ice storm tomorrow (Monday) and snow on Wednesday this week.  I knew I should have extended my stay in Orlando!

Here’s your “B-ism” for today…

A real southern saying that means just what you think it does…

Can You Case It #53…

As a member of the Design Team at Can You Case it, each week the team is challenged to create a card with a specific challenge.  This week the challenge is a quick and simple card…oh my goodness.  You can find it here.  These cards are definitely a struggle for me and are NEVER quick.

But, I really like the way this one turned out even if it wasn’t quick.  Here’s the card…

This would be a great Valentine card and quick too if you already had the design.  Here is the Stuff ‘N Digits for you…

  • Paper:  Whisper White and Real Red cardstock
  • Ink:  Memento Black and Real Red
  • Stamps:  Hello Life and Gorgeous Grunge
  • Tools ‘N Embellishments:  Linen Thread, Itty Bitty Heart Punch and Happy Heart Embossing Folder

  • The Whisper White base card is 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″
  • The Real Red layer is 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″
  • The Whisper White layer is 5 1/4″ x 4″
  • Stamp sentiment in Memento Black and Gorgeous Grunge in Real Red.
  • Punch heart in Real Red with Itty Bitty Heart Punch and attach a dimensional to back.
  • Loop several times with Linen Thread and attach to dimensional on back of heart.  Attach another dimensional on top of thread.
  • Attach heart with thread to card front.
  • Inside there is a layer of Real Red under a layer of Whisper White that has been embossed with hearts at the bottom quarter.
  • The envelope was also embossed on the flap with the hearts.
  • Don’t forget your personalized stamp on the back.

Can I tell you how beautiful the weather is here today?  Almost 60 degrees and sunny.  Zoe and I will be taking a glorious walk this afternoon in the sun!  Hope we see the eagle today, too.

Here’s your “B-ism” for today…
