Of Mice and Candles…

Do you like my title today?  John Steinbeck and especially his book, Of Mice and Men are favorites of mine since high school and I couldn’t resist the pundit on the book title.

Today we have mice marching bravely around the base of Christmas candles.  More product for the Christmas Market…

Here is one batch all packaged and ready to go including the coordinating tags…

A close up without the packaging.  And…

a decorating mouse (he is on both sides).  And…

A singing mouse.  Plus…

A red bird in the Sheltering Tree.

These were fun to do…have you ever applied art to a candle?    It’s not hard at all.

Here’s the Stuff ‘N Digits for you…

  • Paper:  White Tissue wrapping paper
  • Ink:  Archival Basic Black, plus markers in the colors you like.
  • Stamps:  Well any of them…but I used the set Merry Mice and Sheltering Tree
  • Tools ‘N Embellishments:  Any size white unscented candle, heat gun, Dazzling Diamonds Glitter, Real Red Stitched Edge Ribbon

  • Stamp your choice of art on white wrapping tissue paper with Archival Black Ink.  On the back of the stamped image color with markers.
  • Trim away excess paper close to your image.
  • Place image on candle and begin to heat with Heat Gun.  You can see when the tissue paper melts into the candle.  Don’t linger in one spot or you’ll melt your candle and it will look “wonky”!
  • If you want to apply Dazzling Diamonds Glitter, heat image and immediately sprinkle with glitter.  Some of it will stick.
  • Make a tag with whatever stamp set you used.
  • I used the large wine bottle cello bags to package the candles (trim the bag top after placing candle inside) and tied with Real Red Stitched Edge Ribbon sliding the tag over the ribbon ends.

Here’s hoping those stopping by my space at the market will like these little Christmas mice as much as I do…

Spooky Mantle…

Do you like Halloween?  Some do and some don’t.  I’m one of those who love it in a cute spooky way.  We get about 50 kids each year Trick or Treating and it’s just so much fun seeing all the kids in their creative costumes.

Needless to say, around my house its always decorated, plus we put spooky lights and other things in our yard leading up to the door.  The kids love it.

Here are a couple of shots of a banner that’s on my mantle plus some Halloween candles that coordinate.

and this one…

The banner spells out Spooky with big burlap bows at each end.  I find it hard and next to impossible to get a good pic of a banner…but you get the jest.

Here are the candles…

These were made last year.  That’s what is great about making this type of decoration…you can reuse it again.

Maybe you saw something here today that inspires a creation of your own…I hope so.  Thanks for stopping by.
