Of Mice and Candles…

Do you like my title today?  John Steinbeck and especially his book, Of Mice and Men are favorites of mine since high school and I couldn’t resist the pundit on the book title.

Today we have mice marching bravely around the base of Christmas candles.  More product for the Christmas Market…

Here is one batch all packaged and ready to go including the coordinating tags…

A close up without the packaging.  And…

a decorating mouse (he is on both sides).  And…

A singing mouse.  Plus…

A red bird in the Sheltering Tree.

These were fun to do…have you ever applied art to a candle?    It’s not hard at all.

Here’s the Stuff ‘N Digits for you…

  • Paper:  White Tissue wrapping paper
  • Ink:  Archival Basic Black, plus markers in the colors you like.
  • Stamps:  Well any of them…but I used the set Merry Mice and Sheltering Tree
  • Tools ‘N Embellishments:  Any size white unscented candle, heat gun, Dazzling Diamonds Glitter, Real Red Stitched Edge Ribbon

  • Stamp your choice of art on white wrapping tissue paper with Archival Black Ink.  On the back of the stamped image color with markers.
  • Trim away excess paper close to your image.
  • Place image on candle and begin to heat with Heat Gun.  You can see when the tissue paper melts into the candle.  Don’t linger in one spot or you’ll melt your candle and it will look “wonky”!
  • If you want to apply Dazzling Diamonds Glitter, heat image and immediately sprinkle with glitter.  Some of it will stick.
  • Make a tag with whatever stamp set you used.
  • I used the large wine bottle cello bags to package the candles (trim the bag top after placing candle inside) and tied with Real Red Stitched Edge Ribbon sliding the tag over the ribbon ends.

Here’s hoping those stopping by my space at the market will like these little Christmas mice as much as I do…

Here is your “B-ism” for today…

coffee every day.

And inky fingers too so you will be extra HaPpY!

  1. These are adorable candles, Billie. I love the mice and Sheltering Tree on them. That is such a cute idea. It seems simple enough with your detailed instructions but looks very creative. I’m sure they will sell. You must have an extensive display booth to show all these grand items you have made. If you have time, please take a picture of it when it’s all set up. The “b-ism” is a hoot!! I know what an important factor coffee is in your day! Have a great day tomorrow.

    • I don’t have a booth of any kind…Got to get creative and come up with something. I will definitely take photos once it is set up. I loved the candles and they really are not difficult to make at all. Wish I had more time because there were some pretty good ideas floating around in my head…just no time. Thanks HJ!…B!

  2. Oh Billie …. this is the PERFECT gift for my class attendees!! Thank you so much for the inspiration you provide – and on a daily basis! I soo much want to win our lottery so I can come over from NZ and sit in a corner of your studio 🙂 We are so lucky to have your input xx
