Birthday Pop Up…

Sweetums birthday is coming in a couple of weeks so when I found Gemma Clarke’s video on how she made a pop up card, well…you know I had to give this a try.  And I can’t wait for him to open it either!

It looks not suspicious at all does it?  Just a little box with a surprise in it.

Once you pull the handle and slide the box top off, this box pops right out of the tray.  On three sides it spells out his name and the hot air balloon coordinates with the box cover.

a little close up.

You can watch the box in action by clicking on this file popupbox.

Now, seriously, how does someone ever come up with an idea like this?  For me I watched a youtube video by Gemma Clarke (www.madebygemmacrafts.co.uk)  and it was awesome.  I drew diagrams and took notes and no one was more surprised than me when it worked!  It was another one of those HaPpY dancing days.  Here’s what my notes looked like…

It would only make sense if you had seen the video…which is why I’m giving you the link to Gemma’s video here.

Here’s the Stuff…(Gemma’s got the Digits)

Stuff

  • Paper:  Very Vanilla, Real Red, Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie and Basic Black Cardstock, plus Urban Underground Specialty Designer Series Paper
  • Ink:  Real Red, Archival Basic Black
  • Stamps:  Life Me Up, Birthday Banners
  • Tools ‘N Embellishments:  Up & Away Thinlets Dies, Bunch of Banners Framelits, Cupcakes & Carousels Embellishment Kit, Metallic Shapes

Making this project was an adventure and it’s just so much fun learning something new.  Thank you Gemma for your inspiration!

Here’s your “B-ism” for today…

keep that in mind while you make this project…

I’m inky and HaPpY!

Comments

  1. Finally I got the submit comment to send. The only difference I could determine with it going or not going is I didn’t put my web site in. I did a test with the Ken Oliver comment. Anyway all of the comments I have entered before were to tell you how beautiful your work is. I can’t wait to watch your video on the color burst technique. I also love your B-isms, I think Sweetums is going to be very impressed with what you made here!

    • Well…YAy! I have no idea why that should make a difference Karen, but I’m so glad you persisted. Thanks so much for stopping by today…B!

    • You are so welcome Pauline. I actually heard from Gemma today after this post went up. She seemed delighted with my version which didn’t resemble hers in any way. I hope you feel inspired to give it a try. Her video is awesome!…B!

  2. Oh, Billie, this is a very cute, unique idea that I haven’t seen, but I’m going to try this for my brother’s birthday in May. He doesn’t lives in another state and I won’t get to see him open it, but the surprise element will give him a good laugh. I love it and will have to watch the video several more times to really get the hang of it. Thanks so much for sharing Sweetums’ card. Right now my craft room looks as though it needs the organizer from the hoarder show, but before May I should have it painted and re-arranged so I can make this. I took your card to my card making class today and everyone oooh’d and aaah’d over it, as I knew they would. I love today’s “b-ism” for the quote and picture of the rainbow! Have a great weekend.

    • Oh I hope you do try one of these pop up cards for your brother. Gemma’s video is excellent and I’m sure your card/box will turn out perfect. We will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary this weekend…went by in a blink!…B!

    • Congratulations, Billie, on your 50th anniversary!! What an accomplishment for both of you for to have so many years of wedded bliss together. Recently you mentioned that you have several long-time friends, who also will celebrate their 50th this year. It is wonderful for all of you to have stayed together as couples and as friends for all these years. Bob and I will celebrate our 45th in August and we have three couple we’ve been close friends with for 30 years. Sadly, we lost one man recently and I guess at our age that is to be expected. Have a wonderful celebration with your family and friends. I’ll be thinking of you.

    • Thank you HIlda for the anniversary wishes. We are planning a nice dinner out tomorrow night and a little trip in April. We’ve got to wait for the great-g’baby to get here next month…sure wouldn’t want to miss that? All my friends from high school and college are all still together and it is just the best! Have a great weekend!…B!
