A “Deer” Christmas…

About this time of year many of us are looking for ideas and making decisions about how we will create our Christmas cards.  Then we collect our supplies and begin transforming ink and paper into our own beautiful creations…
Today’s post uses my favorite technique “masking” and includes some embossing for a simple but stunning Christmas card that I believe would be easy to mass produce.
Look what masking and sponging can do!
Add some embossing and a sentiment…
Some background texture with liquid glue that needs to dry for a bit.
and a peek inside.
This stamp set is one that must be earned and is only available until October 31st.  If you are interested in getting this set, let me know.  But there are so many other stamp sets that lend themselves to this type of card.
Here’s the Stuff ‘N Digits for you…
  • Paper:  Thick Whisper White, Lemon Lime Twist and Pool Party Cardstock
  • Ink:  Archival Basic Black, Lemon Lime Twist, Rich Razzleberry, and Pool Party
  • Stamps:  Merry Patterns
  • Tools ‘N Embellishments:  VersaMark Ink, Black Embossing Powder, Thin Tipped Glue, Embossing Buddy
  • The Thick Whisper White base card is 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″.  Score, fold and burnish at 4-1/4″
  • The Pool Party layer is 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ attached to card front with SNAIL.
  • The Lemon Lime Twist layer is 4″ x 5-1/4″ attached to Lemon Lime Twist layer with SNAIL.
  • The top Thick Whisper White layer is 3-7/8″ x 5-1/8″.
  • Use Embossing Buddy over area to be stamped with deer.  Then stamp deer in VersaMark Ink, sprinkle with Black EP and heat.
  • Mask the top and bottom borders with Post It Notes.
  • Sponge starting at the bottom with Lemon Lime Twist, Rich Razzleberry then Pool Party.  Blend where the colors meet.
  • Remove masks.
  • Add sentiment at lower left corner with Archival Basic Black then add this layer to card front with SNAIL.
  • Add dots of glue over sponging.  Let dry completely or over night.
  • Inside there is a layer of Pool Party 4-3/8″ x 3-3/8″ attached with SNAIL.
  • The Thick Whisper White layer is 4-1/4″ x 3-1/4″ attached over Pool Party layer with SNAIL.
  • Add evergreen sprig with Lemon Lime Twist stamping twice without reinking.
  • The envelope was also stamped with the same evergreen sprig in the same way on the lower left corner to coordinate with the card.
Hope you will give this masking technique a try and see if you like it.  It’s pretty impressive in person and so easy to do…
Do you have plans for this first full autumn weekend?
Here’s your “B-ism” for today…
make this happen.
Stay inky…Be HaPpY!

  1. Oh, Billie, this is a beautiful, colorful card. I have this stamp set with the handsome deer. Love the masking for colors and the embossing of the deer. Your digits and stuff are always so easy to follow. I’m going to CASE it tonight. With all the thick CS and layers, should I plan on sending it in a padded envelope or just use a custom-made envelope I make to fit it? All the cards I make have to be mailed. Yes, I even mail them to our neighbors. I have had a grand week, including a card class, a massage and now a beautiful card to CASE. Does life get any better??? Have a wonderful weekend.

    • You won’t even need extra postage for this card and it definitely fits into a regular envelope HJ. I hope you do try it…I’d love to see what you create!…B!

  2. Thanks, Billie, for your quick reply. That’s good to know a regular stamp will do. This card would be worth the extra postage for someone special. I’ll try to remember to send you a picture, if it comes out as I hope.
